Former Dep’t. of Education official “…thought we were doing God’s work…” when they were WHAT?

When they were strengthening collection of students loans through what the New York Times characterizes as “ruthless tactics”.  (See today’s NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/02/us/loan-monitor-is-accused-of-ruthless-tactics-on-student-debt.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=us)

Here was my response,

“The former Department of Education official “…thought we were doing God’s work…” when they were strengthening collection of money from students, many of whom had paid that money to greedy institutions who unscrupulously claimed to be selling education, when they were just selling grades, degrees and climbing walls?  Why doesn’t this same Department of “Education” really do a little of God’s work by ensuring that these kids are getting an education? (You know, the thing they thought they were borrowing money to pay for?)

I am a former math professor, and I certify (from experience) that what is written above about unscrupulouis institutions is true.  (Just read some of the stories on my blog www.inside-higher-ed.com)  Buyer beware.  The seller (once quaintly known as a “university” or “college”.) knows, that the customer (once qaintly known as a “student”.) is, by definition, uneducated about the seller’s product and can easily be scammed.  From this article, it appears that the Department of Education wants to see that the sellers and funders get your money, not that you get an education. So you have to look out for yourself.”
