Elizabeth Warren was right to expose the academic-financial complex.

It’s not money. It’s corrupt people that are corrupting research – and higher education. I know.
I have seen lives and careers almost destroyed by these people. Money helps, though for them the money is just icing on the cake. (Of course money does help them keep colleagues at bay.)
Just one example of what I have seen is a cabal of professors (at a major “elite” research university) steal the work of a brilliant young professor – and then preempt him by using their powerful positions to accuse HIM of being a plagiarist.
(That story, with a handwritten copy of the stolen paper, is on my blog inside-higher-ed . It is “The Purloined Proof”.)
As pernicious as corrupt research is, corrupt higher education is much worse. Most of these corrupt researchers are professors in universities. The implications of that are enormous for our whole society.
