No gains for 12th-graders on national exam – The Washington Post

I posted comments on this coverage and the coverage in the WSJ.

No gains for 12th-graders on national exam – The Washington Post.

Here is the comment:

The major reason for poor high school performance is easy to see, but most people have trouble believing the elephant in the room is HIGHER EDUCATION,. That elephant weighs down heavily on high school education.

As a math professor, it was clear to me where the problem started.   After all, it is the universities that we rely on for educating high school teachers.  But, mostly, they don’t;  and we even pay them for this.

I don’t have the space to explain, and tell the true stories here, but if your readers look at the category “University Education Dumbs Down High School ” on my blog www.inside-higher-ed.com, I think all will be clear.

I would especially look at “No Jobs for Ph.D’s? Depends on what you mean by Ph.D.”, “Professor Alfred Doesn’t Know What is Wrong with the Homework”, “Not Being Good at Math – Should That Be a Bar to Getting a PhD in Math?”.
