From page 70 of the 2015 “rankings”:
“…The higher the proportion of freshmen who return…and eventually graduate, the better a school most likely is at offering the classes and services that students need to succeed…”
Oh, if it were true. Do the people at US News know that another way of helping people “succeed” [in just getting a degree] is to move the target much closer. (Shh…don’t tell anyone, but if you must know, see Arum and Roksa’s work.)
Oh, well, so much for David Riesman and Clark Kerr; and, so much for the University of Chicago.
What do they know about getting a degree anyway? They are anachronisms – you know, from when people went to college for an education.
